 Equality, diversity and inclusion

We are committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity for all those within NBLT’s community

The Equality Act (the Act) was introduced in October 2010 and largely consolidates and replaces the race, disability and gender equality duties. The Act simplifies, strengthens and harmonises current legislation to provide a new discrimination law which protects individuals from unfair treatment and promotes a fair and equal society. The Act makes it unlawful for employers to discriminate against individuals because of a ‘protected characteristic’, such as age, disability, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

 Embracing equality and diversity:

As an employer, a service provider and community partner we are committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity for all those within NBLT’s community, whether employees, residents, visitors, contractors or suppliers.

At NBLT we believe that:

  • People’s differences are understood and respected;

  • Our workforce is reflective of the diversity mix of the community we serve;

  • Our services are accessible to as many people as possible;

  • We encourage and support work life balance through our framework of policies;

  • We act robustly to challenge and eliminate bullying, discrimination and harassment of any kind;

  • We listen to our customers and employees to improve the services we offer.

 Our strategic priorities are:

  • Remove all physical barriers to leisure opportunities at NBLT;

  • To provide an accessible and responsive service to all;

  • Provide the information, advice and guidance needed to help the customer map their most appropriate path to change;

  • Ensure each activity develops a culture of continuous improvement, support and inclusion;

  • Work beyond the Equality Act 2010;

  • Promote diversity beyond stereotypical expectations;

  • Promote a diverse workforce at all levels;

  • Attract, support and retain people with a disability.
